A new chapter in the history of Bank Indonesia as an independent Central Bank in performing its duties and authorities began when a new law, namely Law no. 23/1999 on Bank Indonesia, declared force on May 17, 1999 and as amended by Act No. Republic of Indonesia. 6 / 2009. This Act provides the status and position as an independent state agency in performing duties and responsibilities, free from government intervention and / or other parties, except for matters expressly provided for in this legislation.
Bank Indonesia has full autonomy in formulating and carrying out any duties and responsibilities as specified in the law. Outsiders are not allowed to interfere execution of the tasks of Bank Indonesia and Bank Indonesia are also obliged to reject or ignore any form of intervention in any party whatsoever.
